Welcome to the Northern Lights Project

Seven councils in the Northern Inland region will benefit from the installation of new energy efficient street lighting, under a project coordinated by Regional Development Australia Northern Inland and funded by the Australian Government.

The objective is to replace around 5,000 mercury vapour, metal halide and compact fluorescent street lights with the latest LED technology, saving 1,000 MW hours of energy and in excess of $200,000 per annum in electricity costs. Maintenance costs should also be reduced, due to the lower failure rate and longer life of LEDs.

The project also employs an Energy Efficiency Education Officer to work with local communities, local government and businesses to reduce energy use and costs.  As at 7th December this years he has covered all Northern Inland areas towns several times over and will continue until the end of March 2016.

The Northern Lights Project was one of the finalists in the 2015 Green Globe Awards!

Bill's Energy Tip

Energy Saving Tip of the Week

On hot days, avoid using the oven; cook on the stove, use a microwave oven, or grill outside. Cooking in the oven creates LOTS of heat - good in winter but not good in summer.
