Keep track of meter readings

To be sure you only pay for the electricity that you use, read your meter when you move in or out of a property and write this information down for future reference. Keep this information as well as bills and any correspondence from your energy provider. If you have no current problems with your energy provider, you should be safe to throw out bills more than a year old.
